Negative Space specializes in transforming old film negatives into vibrant memories.
Founded by two photography enthusiasts, Negative Space is all about reviving emotions captured in classic photos. I've teamed up with Negative Space to create a Brand Identity that reflected their passion for photography, their commitment to preserve film developing and the audacious dream of being a go-to service for all photography enthusiasts, old and new.
The main challenge for this project was to create a Brand Identity that reflected old-style photography with the need to cater toward a young or unexperienced audience. To better solve it, I've first built a Brand Strategy with the owners, defining their business values, mission and vision.
After collecting enough informations about the core of their business and with in mind their target audience, I've started to explore different design possibilities.
In art and design, negative space is the empty space around and between the subject of an image. For this reason, I decided to create a black box around the word “space” to create the “negative space” effect.
For the brand mark, I decided to combine the brand name in symbolic way.
In mathematic, “negative” is also known as the symbol “minus” “-” so we decided to use the mathematical symbol to create a connection with the “negative” in the brand name.
